Short but Sweet

Arthur Conan Doyle (May 22, 1859 - July 7, 1930)

Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle originally worked as an optometrist; when this proved to be a failure, he began writing the Sherlock Holmes stories. He wrote four novels and fifty-six short stories concerning Holmes (many more were written by other authors who came after him). Doyle wasn't content to simply write about crime -- he also investigated two closed cases and was integral in changes to the British legal system.

PRESS RELEASE FOR THE MIST OF SINS

Chrissy Yacoub’s latest novel “The Mist of Sins” grabs you and doesn’t let go
Will keep you and the hairs on your neck up all night long.

New York, NY “Judge not and you will not be judged.” The Mist of Sins revolves around this theme-focusing on the life of a family haunted by the sins of their past and whose children are destined to repeat them.

Author Chrissy Yacoub addresses humankind’s inherent sinful nature and the inclination humanity posses to cast judgment on others with failure to analyze our own shortcomings. Yacoub is the author of novels including Lost Soul, Autumn’s Apparition and Cultures Colliding; all of which address the struggles and challenges of mainstream society while combining relatable characters thrown into worlds of mystery and intrigue. The Mist of Sins is a tale about an otherwise moral woman who is caught in an immoral web of deceit committing a sin that could cost her life or that of the people she loves.

Yacoub brings to life the character of Misty Graham; a happily married woman with a beautiful child she is raising with her devoted husband Caleb in a home that was passed down in his family for generations. One day Misty is visited by an old flame from her past who awakens feelings in her she was sure were dead. Her suspicious mother-in-law watches her with scornful eyes as the situation spirals out of control and Misty is warned that the “wages of sin is death.” All the while her mother-in-law has buried a horrible secret all her own; one that slowly begins to resurface revealing a scandal of deadly consequences.

Yacoub brilliantly interweaves the human desire that lies within all of us while simultaneously creating a world of mystery, scandal and twist you won’t see coming.

Seasons of Our Lives

So last night I took a walk around my neighborhood. I needed to get out of the house, breathe some fresh air, clear my mind from the chaos raging inside me. It’s amazing what a walk will do. Unfortunately, I couldn’t take that feeling of invigoration and bottle it up for later.

Here I am; struggling once again not to let the stress of people, work and life in general eat at my soul. It’s difficult sometimes. As I took my walk I noticed three little boys walking with who I assumed was their mother. All of a sudden their faces lit up and they were pointing to the sky as if an angel was descending from the heavens.

Well, it wasn’t an angel. It was just an airplane. But their excitement was so touching and tender to see. I remembered the days of my youth when something simple like an airplane was all it took to excite me.

In many ways I try to hold on to the innocent moments of childhood. I take pleasure in simple things. For example, last night I took in the tiny green buds that had begun to sprout on what was once barren trees; heralding the arrival of spring.

I think about how, come autumn, these trees so full of luster and hope will fade away and fall returning back to the earth; gone. Some branches develop a fuller or more colorful foliage than others, but in the end each eventually arrives at the same destination—with their final descent to the ground- like humans.

Nature mimics the cycle of life as love and birth change to loss and heartbreak. I think about how each of us, too, has those personal moments of glory in our lives when we're in full bloom, sharing our abundant shade with others, giving off beautiful deeds for the world to appreciate. But these moments, too, wither away, as the wheel of life turns and our moments of inspiration and accomplishment are depleted. We start off our lives full of wonder, expecting the most, full of hope and belief in our unlimited potential; only to have our expectations; dreams and idealism tumble down into reality with the passage of time.

Right now I feel that many struggles and obstacles stand in my way, ripping away each of my branches if you will and pulling me into a million different directions. But like the trees I came across last night during my walk; be it the abundant ones full of vivacity or the still barren ones striving to catch up, one thing remains unchanging – our roots. And during the stresses and adversity we endure, if we can embrace who we are, the history and experiences that have shaped us, the beliefs and convictions we so strongly stand behind, we can get through all the seasons of our lives.
